...A Day That Will Live In Infamy...

9.11.01
As this day goes into the history books, the country looks for revenge.  But, let us not seek to destroy innocent lives by proceeding too hastily, or in hatred and anger.   I am not saying that we should not be angry, because we should be.  I am simlpy saying that we should not let that anger guide our actions against those responsible.  Let us, as a nation, take the moral high road, and rise above this atrocity united in purpose, in mind and in spirit.

9.11.01, a day that will live in infamy.  There was a time when those words spoke about the tragedy of Pearl Harbor, where, on December 7, 1941, Japanese kamikaze pilots attacked U.S. warships docked in Pearl Harbor.  But now those words also reflect the feelings of the nation after September 11, 2001.  9.11.01.  A date that will live on in the hearts of Americans, and even the world long after the smoke finally settles and the rubble and debris are removed.  Long after any makeshift memorials make way for official ones, that date will remain as a memorial in the hearts and minds of those who witnessed the airliners crash into the World Trade Centers twin towers.

Many, if not most, are calling for a swift, no-holds-barred attack on those responsible, but I challenge those who hold that view to not seek justice through the eyes of anger.  I am not saying that we should not be angry, because we should.  We should be angered that these terrorists used our planes, attacked our buildings and killed innocent people, our people.  But, if we resort to weapons of mass destruction against a country, then, not only do we risk killing innocents, but we stoop to the level of those who committed the atrocities against us.  This is not a popular view, but it is my view, and how I feel we should look at this.  If we allow innocent people, civilians, to be killed while seeking immediate justice, we are no better than the madmen who orchestrated 9.11.01.

Let us, as a nation, rise above this atrocity, and unite against the forces of evil that are so prevalent in the world today.  Let us not allow the terrorists the victory they so desire, by living in fear, but let us keep to our daily routines as much as possible, and show those who would seek to destroy us as a nation that we are not only strong enough to fight back, but that we are smart enough to fight back responsibly, and within the lines of justice.
